(d)evolution of a language?

We should have a great fewer disputes in the world if words were taken for what they are, the signs of our ideas only, and not for things themselves.  ~John Locke

From about the eighteenth century onwards, it spread across the globe, along with the English Navy, and became a second language to most of the world, and a first language to many as well. It picked up words from every continent , including from words here in India. So when you want to own a bungalow near a jungle , and wear Khakis all day and dream of Blighty, thank us Indians!

Then the Internet came along, and people from all over the world were connected and could chat with one another.English spread even further. Usenet abbreviation also popularised, especially when chat applications such as ICQ and IRC gained popularity.

Necessity is the mother of all inventions though, and the 160 character limit of SMSes, when mobile phones took off was the harbinger of death to the prim words!

A lot of us may not like the way people use short messages e.g.while chatiing, but v r used 2 it now.Heck, v even started  rply sme1 respnse.

Bt the point is it doesn’t matter whethr we like it or nt, becoz dis is what happenin 2 us, v r doing away with useless characters, n trying 2 speed thngs up. May be d cming gen will tlk 2 each other , like dis, but as long as dey undrstand each other , who r v  2 judge ?

It may nt b d most preferred form of evolution, bt can v rly call it devolution? Since U hve cmpleted readng dis post , U mst have understood what I m tryng 2 say.

Thnks 4 readng , happy sharing 🙂
